Whats the Beef Between Nickin Minaj and Kim
Nicki Minaj fans would be well aware that the Super Bass chart-topper and fellow rapper Lil Kim haven't seen eye-to-eye throughout Minaj's rise to stardom in the late '00s. The famous female MCs first crossed paths at a concert in 2009, and while everything was said to have been cool between the two at the event, Kim later claimed that Minaj was subliminally dissing her in songs.
The Brooklyn-born hitmaker further asserted that Minaj had never shown her genuine love and that she had been left with the impression that a feud between the two was brewing because Kim wasn't going to be dissed no more. Songs like Diddy's Hello Good Morning remix, where Minaj raps, "… but did I kill a Queen?" were lyrics were Kim, the self-proclaimed Queen B, felt attacked.
The pair heavily feuded in the early '10s, with both parties releasing diss tracks about one another, with Kim saying she would never want to work with Minaj after what had transpired between the pair. But in a recent interview Minaj did with Joe Budden, it appears as if the rappers may have quietly squashed their feud behind the scenes.
Nicki Praises Kim During Her Joe Dudden Interview
In March 2022, Minaj sat down for a candid chat with Joe Budden, where she spoke on Kim's influence in the music industry while discussing how black women are often overlooked for the trends they start but are never acknowledged for.
While the Hard White rapper said that she herself hadn't been given the credit for all the trends she started throughout her lengthy reign in hip hop, she found it important to stress that there were plenty of women before her who were also shunned and never attributed to their influence on rap and Black culture.
One of the points Minaj, a mother-of-one, explained that despite being "the biggest female rapper of all time" in the "most influential genre in the world," she had yet to grace the cover of Vogue US by now. And though she has been able to front the cover in other countries of the world, Minaj had yet to be asked to helm the honor for the US edition.
"When Billie Eilish comes out and sets a trend with her green hair, she's immediately put on American Vogue," she argued.
She then went on to bring up her former industry nemesis, saying: "The same way I feel I should have already been on the cover of American Vogue, so should have Lil' Kim. If we being all the way a thousand. If this is what your magazine represents, influence…"
"Because when myself or Lil Kim goes on the internet, every day we see our influence. We will see our influence. So, I'm not gonna say it's about me only and not give that woman [Kim] her dues."
Fans took it as a peace offering from Minaj's side, particularly because the Starships chart-topper had previously said she would never speak of Kim again in the peak of their feud in 2011.
Kim Wants To Battle Nicki On Verzuz
In June 2021, while in attendance for the BET Awards, Kim was walking the red carpet when she stopped for a brief chat with DJ Envy of The Breakfast Club, who quizzed her on whether she would ever be open to the idea of taking part in a Verzuz battle.
When Kim nodded, Envy followed up his question by asking who would be someone Kim saw herself battling, to which she responded, saying, "Nicki."
In her interview with Budden, when the podcaster brought up the topic of Verzuz, saying he couldn't think of too many rappers that could go toe-to-toe with Minaj, he did go mention Kim, Missy Elliott "and maybe Lauryn Hill."
Minaj remained coy as Budden waited for a response, but she also didn't rule out the possibilities that Kim could be one of her potential opponents if she was to sign on for the Swizz Beatz and Timbaland produced online hit series.
Minaj said she hesitated to answer because "I approach those things as a rap fan, not as Nicki Minaj,"
"I think there are a lot of…well, not a lot of," she added before Budden began to laugh. "It's just about if somebody can play their joints and have people reminisce and go crazy… So yes, there are people."
Since the release of her debut album Pink Friday in 2010, Minaj has amassed an incredible $100 million net worth.
